About My Photography
I have chosen to combine my work and personal interests on this website as I believe that this will provide a broad and honest picture of me. Maybe some of my interests can be of assistance to those who chose me to manage or co-ordinate their events. The combination at this point in time, makes a very eclectic site, but I hope an interesting one.
Why I took up Photography
Years ago my husband bought an SLR camera, he spent much time learning how to use it and taking some awesome photos of our children. I was very jealous, I had a simple point and shoot camera that worked okay, but it wasn’t an SLR. I so wanted to create beautiful images. I can’t paint or draw, so the pull of the camera was strong.
I had dabbled in event management during my then marriage, but nothing too intense. Once on my own with a mortgage, I had to get a job that paid the bills. It wasn’t very exciting (to me – in the air conditioning business), but I learnt a lot and it lasted nearly 15 years.
Then in 2008 through circumstances that aren’t relevant here, I was again working as an event manager and this time it was paying the bills.
I was contracting photographers to keep the pictorial records of various event but was not getting the shots I wanted, when and where I wanted them. My time had finally come – this was it – I bought my SLR and the tax man could help me pay for it.
Over those years I have developed quite a love affair with my camera, I’m slowly learning and occasionally snag a great shot.
After trawling the internet for blogs and discovered Flickr, I studied the images of far better photographers than I. Studying their shape and form and noting camera settings and advice is helping. Shortly we are visiting the UK and Europe and I am hastily absorbing as much as I can before we leave. My ‘bucket list’ includes visiting the Isle of Skye in Scotland, where my parents met, and the Greek Isles of which we have selected Santorini, which appears to be the one of the most beautiful of the 1200 to chose from.
I love photos of sunsets and storms and towering precipices of mountain scenery and I want to create my own. On both Skye and Santorini I had the opportunity to capture these images. I’ve even managed some passable portraits of family members and I’ve been surprised by the powerful black and white printed results. I’m on my way.
Event photography is still my favourite – whether it be festivals or birthday parties, I love the candid shots of both people and produce.
